List and describe the three different types of microphones. What precautions should you take when using them?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: The three types of microphones are the lavalier (a clip-on type worn by news people and interviewees that are worn on the front of clothing), the boom (used in TV shows and movies, hangs over the heads of the speakers, and is remote-controlled), and the stationary (multidirectional microphones most often attached to a lectern, sitting on a desk, or standing on the floor). Precautions to be taken include making sure a speaker can be heard even when not speaking directly into the microphone; being sure to speak clearly and crisply; pronouncing B, P, and S sounds with less intensity; testing a microphone by counting or asking if you can be heard (as opposed to tapping or blowing on the mic); speaking at a normal volume; and making sure the microphone is turned off before having personal conversations.
