Why is it important to retrieve the AED?

A 52-year-old male presents with a positive medical history. He reports on his medical history that he is taking medication for a heart condition and hypertension. As the dental auxiliary prepares for the procedure, the patient begins to complain of chest pains and loses consciousness. The dental auxiliary notifies the dentist and the receptionist and begins chest compressions. Once the dentist enters the operatory, she places a hard backboard under the patient and prepares the AED. The receptionist notifies the EMS system and retrieves the emergency kit.

What will be an ideal response?

The AED will diagnose the cardiac rhythm and determine if an electrical shock is necessary to reestablish an effective cardiac rhythm.
