What is the exclusionary rule? What is its purpose? What are the exceptions to the exclusionary rule?

The exclusionary rule is when an unreasonable search was conducted, making the evidence obtained from it incompetent and therefore excluded from trial. The purpose of the exclusionary rule is to deter unlawful police actions during searches and seizures. Exceptions to the exclusionary rule are the good-faith exception, the inevitable discovery exception, the purged-taint exception, and the independent source exception.
