What will be an ideal response?
(1) Compute the difference between each value and the mean; (2) Square (multiply by itself) each difference (to eliminate negative signs); (3) Sum, or add up, all the squared differences; (4) Find the average, or mean, of the sum of squared differences by dividing the total from step 3 by the number of scores; and (5) Take the square root of this average, in order to bring the final value back to the original scale.
