a. shrinkage. c. enlargement.
b. relocation. d. capacity.

C
Liver span is measured to determine the size of the liver. It is performed to examine for enlargement. An enlarged liver span indicates liver enlargement or hepatomegaly. Clinical estimation of liver span is important to screen for hepatomegaly and to monitor changes in liver size. However, this measurement is a gross estimate; the liver span can be underestimated because of inaccurate detection of the upper border. Liver span can be decreased (indicating shrinkage of the liver) in the later stages of cirrhosis when the disease causes liver atrophy.
