What factors influence whether someone develops a heterosexual or homosexual orientation?

What will be an ideal response?

Genetic factors have an influence, although the size of that influence is not clear. The evidence is that monozygotic twins are more likely to have the same orientation than dizygotic twins. Men who have an older brother are slightly more likely than average to develop a homosexual orientation. The probable explanation is that some mothers produce immune responses against male chemicals, based on a first pregnancy with a male fetus, and the immune system alters the development of a later male fetus. Adult sex hormones are not responsible for sexual orientation, although prenatal hormones might be. Experiences during life no doubt have an influence also, but the relevant experiences have not yet been clearly identified.
