A. Because deafness is an objective, biological diagnosis, there is no sociological explanation for why the mother may choose to forgo surgery. B. Deafness has been defined as an illness because it is a deviation from “normal” by doctors; however, this ignores the deaf community as culturally distinct and their definition of deafness as a normal experience. C. As a mother, she is likely scared of the potential complications resulting from surgery and is unwilling to have her young child take these risks. D. Because all illness is a social construct, the sociological model of illness suggests that there are no biological, objective treatments for illness. E. None of these are reflective of the sociological model of illness.
