What factors best define the U.S. form of government institutionally and fundamentally? Give specific examples where applicable.

What will be an ideal response?

Because the United States is best described as a constitutional republic, it involves the election of representatives to make the most of laws and policies rather than citi-zens voting on policies and laws directly. In addition, limits are placed on the power of government to prevent government from infringing on the rights of American citizens. These include separating branches of government and instituting a system of checks and balances. Most importantly, the United States recognizes the Constitution as the supreme law of the land and uses it as a benchmark against which the actions of gov-ernment and its institutions may be evaluated.
