Bullying is physical violence, verbal taunts, name calling, put-downs, threats, intimidation, extortion, and stealing. Teachers should ensure students understand what bullying means/what the behaviors are/how it makes people feel, develop/post rules against bullying, establish appropriate consequences for bullying, encourage discussion about bullying/positive ways to interact, discuss dangers of online/electronic interactions, take immediate action on reported bullying, administer a bullying survey, praise prosocial/helpful student behavior, pay attention during unstructured times, take reports of bullying seriously, share information with/enlist assistance from parents, and interview bullies/victims/witnesses separately.
