Discuss Parsons’s “sick role” and how it is important when studying health and sociology.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Parson states that the sick role is rooted in cultural definitions of behavior and response to people labeled as sick. He also stated that sick roles are sociologically determined, such as sick people are not blamed for their illness but are expected to get well and are excused from social responsibilities and other normative social roles. He also stated that illness is medically and sociologically defined because of the normative state of excepted behaviors in society, which includes social roles. This is why it is important to study health with sociology.

Laws permitting covenant marriage have been passed in at least 20 states, and have been proposed

for several other states. Covenant marriage laws are intended to prevent the decline of the traditional nuclear monogamous family unit through strengthening family values, encouraging thoughtful pre-marital engagement, and increasing commitment to the marital union, spouses, and children. Critics contend that although the concept of the covenant marriage is nice, it is not very adaptable to the economic realities of our modern society. What are the key arguments for and against each position? What will be an ideal response?
