Differentiated Instruction is based on the premise that instructional approaches should adapt to the individual needs of students in the classroom. The goal is to ensure students have the opportunity to get what they need. Principles (p. 60) include focus on the essentials; attend to student differences; think of assessment as ongoing and diagnostic; modify content, process, and products; involve students in respectful work; collaborate with students; balance group and individual norms; work flexibly with students.
