Ans: You do not have a study hypothesis when you conduct a descriptive study but you do have a study hypothesis when you conduct an explanatory study. When you conduct a descriptive study, you are simply describing people in regard to certain characteristics rather than explaining things. You do have a study hypothesis when you conduct an explanatory study because your knowledge base has given you reason to believe that your data will show a certain result, such as the fact that men are more likely than women to be accused of sexual abuse.
