Using the attribution theory of motivation, describe a situation in which a person attributes success to each of the following: ability, effort, task difficulty, and luck
For each of these situations, quote the specific attribution made, and indicate the attribution's locus of control, and whether it is stable or unstable.
What will be an ideal response?
Ability: A student believes she is smart, therefore, she will do well in school.
• Effort: Having done well on an exam, a student attributes his success to hours of preparation.
• Task difficulty: A student thought the assignment given to her by her teacher was too easy.
• Luck: Even though a student did not prepare well for the exam, he did well, which he attributes to good guessing.
• Example: "I passed the test because I'm good at science." —internal; stable.
