. A group of graduating MSW students were asked to identify the most meaningful thing they had gained from the experience of the MSW program. One of these students answered as follows: The internship is by far the most useful learning tool in the MSW program. I have really enjoyed the entire field experience. A second student answered as follows: The most important thing I have gained from the MSW program is practice experience integrated with course work. A third student answered as follows: Most important is the quality of my experience-quality in relationships within CHHS, quality of useful class lectures and materials, quality of community resources and connections, quality of hands-on practice through quality field placements, quality of various speakers/ideas that CHHS has brought
to campus. Answer each of these questions: (1) What first-level code would you give for the first student? (2) What first-level code would you give for the second student? (3) What code would you give for the third student that would be similar to those for the first two students? (4) Would you put these first-level codes together into a second-level code?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: The first student referred to the field experience, while the second student reported both on practice experience, which comes from the field placement, and course work. The third student included a reference to the importance of the field experience, which was the code that would be common for the codes of the first two students. Therefore, there would be a second-level code that referred to the importance of the field experience. That second-level code would include all these three references to the field placement.
