The International Olympic Committee is adamant about eliminating drugs from the games. Prior to the 1988 Summer Games, IOC president Samaranch declared, "Doping equals death!" Three million dollars were spent building and equipping the Doping Control Center in Seoul. A staff of eighty analyzed urine samples from the three medal winners in each of the 237 events on the Olympic program. Drug tests were also administered to athletes on a random basis.
