There are seven different situations where an individual has a duty to intervene: (1) status – obligation to assist their child, spouse, or employee; (2) statute – a statute imposes a duty of care; (3) contract – created by an agreement; (4) assumption of duty – voluntary intervention by an individual; (5) creation of peril – an individual who intentionally or negligently places another in danger has a duty to rescue; (6) control – those under direct supervision and command such as employees and members of the military; and (7) property owner – those invited onto their land.
