Motivation is the inner state that activates a person, including drives, desires and/or motives. Employers can use motivation to bring out the best in their employees by giving them reasons to perform better. Employers are always motivating employees-either positively (to perform) or negatively (to withhold performance)-even when they are not conscious of doing so. When employers give employees a reason to perform better, they create positive motivation; on the other hand, if they say or do something that annoys, frustrates, or antagonizes employees, the employees will react negatively and either withhold production or actually sabotage operations.
