Give a hypothetical example of what the following means in terms of speech organization:

"Tell us
what you are going to tell us. Tell us. Then, tell us what you told us."
What will be an ideal response?

Answers may vary. This statement implies that clear organization arranges ideas so that your
listeners can remember them. Let's say the topic of my speech is the Humane Society of the United
States. Before I get into my first point, I would say, "The first thing I would like to highlight is the
history of the Humane Society." This is the "tell us what you are going to tell us" component of the
statement. Then I actually explain the history of the organization in detail. This is the "tell us"
component. Lastly, before I move to my second point, I would say, "Now that I have highlighted the
history of the Humane Society, let's move on and discuss the various animals they fight for." This is the
"tell us what you told us" component of the statement, because you are reminding the audience of that
first main point. You'll do that with each main point, with the primary goal of having your audience
remember your main points.
