Thermal mass (also called thermal capacity) is the ability of a component to store heat. It is directly related to surface density of the material (#/ft2). The greater the surface density, the greater its thermal mass. Concrete walls and slabs, brick, adobe, and stone walls have a higher thermal mass than glazed walls or skylights.
