What roles do the kidneys play in blood pressure maintenance? Include the following in your answer : urine, Na+, renin, angiotensin II, blood volume, osmotic pressure, and aldosterone

What will be an ideal response?

When blood pressure is too low, the kidneys secrete renin, which initiates chemical reactions that ultimately lead to the formation of angiotensin II. The angiotensin II causes the release of aldosterone from the adrenal gland and this hormone causes the kidney to conserve Na+ ions. By putting more filtered Na+ into the blood, the kidneys prevent a decrease in blood osmotic pressure, which causes more water to stay in the blood. This prevents a drop in blood volume and pressure. When blood pressure is too high, the kidneys can excrete more water into the urine, which causes a decrease in blood volume and pressure.
