Discuss the reasoning behind and the potential benefits, to the individual as well as to the community, of pre-trial release alternatives

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary but should include mention that pre-trial release alternatives, in addition to reducing incarceration costs and easing overcrowding, also work to maintain an arrestee's ties with his or her family, friends and community, allow the offender to continue working, provide the opportunity for enrollment in treatment programs, prevent incarceration of persons who have yet to be tried and convicted, and reduce the likelihood that an arrestee will suffer psychological problems as a result of confinement.
