Describe interventions you can use to assist in meeting A.N.'s nutrition goals
What will be an ideal response?
• Provide a high-protein, high-calorie diet as prescribed. Encourage family members or significant
others to bring favorite nutritional foods from home. Provide supplements between meals.
• Document daily caloric intake, and obtain a nutrition consultation as needed.
• Weigh her daily.
• If A.N. cannot tolerate enteral feeding, consider parenteral nutrition (TPN).
• Perform oral hygiene each shift and as needed to prevent stomatitis.
• Schedule treatments to provide for uninterrupted mealtimes. Allow a period of rest before
mealtimes if she has endured a painful procedure or treatment, because pain will decrease
appetite.
