List and explain the different dimensions of community readiness

There are six dimensions of readiness: community efforts, knowledge of the efforts, leadership, community climate, knowledge about the issue, and resources related to the issue.
Community effort is the current state of strategies, programs and policies in place to address the issue at hand.

The second dimension is the community's knowledge of the local efforts to address the issue. Members can be completely unaware of strategies, which reflects a disconnect between practice and community.

Leadership is the third dimension and reflects the extent to which appointed leaders and influential members of the community support the issue.

Community climate is the overarching attitude of the community toward the selected issue.

Community knowledge about the issue is the extent to which members understand the problem, its consequences, and how it impacts the community. This type of knowledge differs from knowledge of the activities related to the issue (dimension 2).

The sixth dimension of a community's ability to take action is the resources related to the issue. Communities often need a range of resources-people, money, space, and time-to improve efforts.

Variations across these six dimensions form the stages of community readiness.
