Which type of insulation is preferred for below ground insulation (basements and concrete slabs-on-ground)?
What will be an ideal response?
The insulation for such uses must be: (i) of adequate compressive strength, i.e., in rigid-board formation, (ii) should not absorb water, and (iii) should have a reasonably high ?-value. XPS and ISO meet these requirements as both have closed cells to prevent water absorption and their ?-values are high–5.0 and 6.0 respectively. XPS is preferred because it does not have facers, which deteriorate over time.
