Explain expansion and elaboration and how they are used

What will be an ideal response?

Language expansion can be used to help students develop more complex form and vocabulary, as the teacher repeats a student's phrase in a more complex manner to model how their thought can be more fully expressed. For example, a student might say, "This one was hard. The first one was easy." The teacher might then repeat, "Oh, this one was hard, but the first one was easier." In this way, the teacher is not correcting the student, but simply showing a more complex way of speaking. Elaboration, similarly, is meant to build on the content of a student's language by adding more information to it. For example, a student might say, "Fish swim in the ocean." The teacher could then ask for other examples of animals that swim in the ocean, or other places that fish might swim.
