Describe the sequence of events that occur when a fully developed midlatitude cyclone passes just to your north, including cloud sequences, frontal passages, and barometric conditions
What will be an ideal response?
The barometer begins to fall as high cirrus clouds precede the storm, winds turn from east to southeast, clouds gradually lowering as a warm front approaches, turning to gently rain increasing to moderate rain. Temperature rises as the warm front passes and the barometer continues falling. Rain continues, but may slacken, until cold front approaches. As cold front approaches, cumulonimbus clouds appear, potential severe weather (tornadoes, hail, lightning, all possible) forms and heavy rain likely in association with thunderstorms. As the front passes winds shift to northwest, rapid clearing occurs, and barometer rises. A few hours later more light rain (or snow if winter) can occur if a trailing occluded front accompanies the storm.
