What did the Supreme Court mean when it constitutionalized the rules of reasonable force into an objective standard?
What will be an ideal response?
According to this standard, the Fourth Amendment permits officers to use the amount of force necessary to apprehend and bring suspects under control. The standard is objective because it does not depend on an officer's intent or motives. So, if an officer uses a reasonable amount of force, the fact that he used that force out of malice or prejudice does not make it unreasonable. By the same token, no amount of good intentions and noble motives will make the use of excessive force reasonable.
