Explain the concept of taste aversions and how it might be applied to people undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments for cancer.
What will be an ideal response?
Taste aversions occur when the presence of food is associated with becoming ill. In the future, the human or animal will avoid the food that has become associated with the feeling of becoming ill. When someone has chemotherapy or radiation, they may feel sick after the treatment. Therefore, any tastes closely associated with the treatment will be avoided in the future. When patients are told to stay hydrated, they may be asked to bring a drink that they can live without after they are done with the treatments. This is because that drink will become associated with the ill feeling that follows their treatments.
