A fairly conserved gene is compared between a human, a chimpanzee, a bear and a banana. How
would you expect their DNA sequences to relate? What will be an ideal response?
The human and chimpanzee would have very similar DNA sequences as they diverged from each other
very recently. The bear would be about equally different from the human and chimpanzee, but more
different than the human compared to the chimpanzee as it diverged much longer ago. The banana
would be very different from all three animals having only the most distant common ancestor.

In meiosis, how does prophase I differ from prophase II?
A) During prophase I there is one diploid cell; during prophase II there are two haploid cells. B) During prophase I chromosomes line up single file in the middle of the cell; during prophase II the chromosomes line up in double file in the middle of the cell. C) During prophase I the chromosomes coil up; the chromosomes are not coiled up during prophase II. D) In prophase I the sister chromatids are attached; in prophase II the sister chromatids are separated.

Geological data suggest a period of global warming around 65 MYA. d. A decline in planktonic fossils around 65 MYA that is stronger but similar to a decline of ma-rine productivity caused by a historic volcanic eruption. e. B and D.
