Summarize the effects of bilingualism on language and cognitive development
What will be an ideal response?
There is little empirical support for the belief that bilingualism has serious negative effects on language development. As a matter of fact, the research suggests that bilingual and monolingual children are similar in the course and rate of their language development. Additionally bilingual children have been shown to score somewhat higher then monolingual students on measures of abstract reasoning, working memory capacity, and some types of problem solving.
