Why do some artists today prefer the term scenographer to set designer?
What will be an ideal response?
Today, many designers call themselves scenographers rather than set designers because they take a holistic approach to the production and see themselves as creators and orchestrators of the entire visual world—sets, costumes, and lights—and co-creators of the production concept. This challenges the traditional hierarchy of the theatre, which typically features a director at the helm of a creative project, aided by a team of designers who realize the directorial concept, and often scenographers cross over into directing as well.
