To what extent do one's culture and one's gender influence one's perception, experience, and expression of emotion? Survey the evidence regarding similarity and difference across gender and culture with respect to the perception, experience, and expression of emotion.

What will be an ideal response?

Emotions are under the influence of universal, biological processes and also cultural norms or rules. Basic emotions appear to be universal, but various cultures have different rules for displaying emotions and for reading emotions in others. For instance, research shows that Americans feel freer to show emotion with others, while the Japanese tend to withhold their emotional expression when with others. While women are often assumed to be the more emotional gender, research shows that there are few differences in what triggers emotions and how those emotions are experienced by males and females. However, how emotions are displayed is guided by societal expectations, which often allow females to express more emotions than males.
