What are the similarities and differences between ad hoc networks and VANETs? Explain clearly.

What will be an ideal response?

Ad hoc is formed on-the-fly among different wireless devices when they
physically come closer to each other. There is no central controller and the
network topology may change dynamically due to mobility of wireless devices. One the other hand, VANET is a special class of ad hoc network when wireless
devices are being carried by different vehicles and inherits all characteristic of
an ad hoc network. The main difference is the mobility of devices. In a VANET,
as the vehicles may be moving at a much faster rate than simply walking, the
network topology may changes more quickly in a VANET. Besides this, due to
high mobility, the membership of a VANET may also change fairly quickly and
some members may leave while new members could join a VANET.
