The Trade Union Act 2016 will change the rules relating to a ballot for industrial action. If the individuals work in essential public services, as with Junior Doctors, at least 40% of those who are eligible to vote must be in favour of the industrial action for it to go ahead. This will stop situations where industrial action is legally allowed, even though a small percentage of those involved actually vote in favour of it taking place. Does this seem fair? Should those working in essential public services be treated differently to employees working in other types of organisations? Should they, in effect, have different rights?

What will be an ideal response?


? Maybe yes, some jobs are more crucial than others.
? But, if we conclude that how does it make people feel that do not work in
‘essential’ public services? Are they less important? Does it actually have a
negative impact on those employees?
