Besides the presence of vascular tissue, what is the main importance of the plant traits that separate seedless vascular

plants from nonvascular plants?

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER: In vascular seedless plants, the presence of lignin provides mechanical support for vertical
growth. In addition, the presence of apical meristems allows for a branching shoot system
to develop. Also, roots, stems, and leaves provide for enhanced uptake and transport of
nutrients as well as improved photosynthesis. Finally, the diploid phase of the life cycle
became more dominant resulting in a larger, longer-lived sporophyte.
