There has been a shooting at a domestic violence incident involving three officers and a sergeant. You have two officers who have been shot and one is not expected to live
The third officer and the sergeant also returned fire and, although not physically harmed, appear to be affected in some kind of post-incident trauma. As a senior supervisor list the various steps you will have to take using managerial concepts presented in this chapter.
The concepts presented in "Managing in Chaos" would be applicable here. The first step is trying to remain calm and gather information from the surviving officers/supervisor. This information has to be relayed to upper management in a matter of fact way.
Two things need to be addressed: the crime scene and taking care of the wounded officers. By this time, those killed or wounded would hopefully be transported to hospital. Orders would have be given for additional personnel to work both areas and determine who would be the best to make notification to the family before the entire event hits the media.
The key is communication with all parties involved and eventually the media and social network on what took place and the steps that are being taking to address the situation.
