Describe what research has shown about the effects of child care centers on children.
What will be an ideal response?
Child care experiences per se do not have strong negative effects on children’s development, as assessed through the end of Grade 6. The largest effects associated with day care were that children who attended higher-quality day care tended to have higher vocabulary scores, and children who spent more time in day care were likely to have more externalizing problems. Child care does not affect the quality of parent-child attachment.
