Safety precautions should be instituted if CNS effects occur but are not needed for every drug as soon as it is initiated. Dosage is adjusted based on hepatic and renal function, not the patient's age. Protecting these patients from exposure to infection and injury is a very important aspect of their nursing care because older patients are naturally somewhat immunosuppressed because of age.
