Compare examples, illustrations, and narratives. Provide a description (or example) of each to demonstrate your understanding.

What will be an ideal response?

The ideal answer should include:
- Examples illustrations, and narratives are specific instances that help you explain your ideas. They can be factual or imaginary, and they are often memorable for the audience.
- An example is a relatively brief specific instance.
* Pat is on the varsity team and has a 4.0 GPA
- An illustration is a longer and more detailed example.
* Pat has always been an athlete but at the same time has always maintained an outstanding academic record. She attends basketball practice three evenings every week and still finds time to complete all of her homework.
- A narrative is longer still and presented in the form of an anecdote or a brief story.
* One time, Pat was overwhelmed with her sport and academic commitments. She sought help from an advisor to help improve her ability to juggle both commitments. By the end of the year, she had mastered her prioritization skills and was able to complete all of her sport and academic responsibilities. She helped the team win the state championship and was able to earn straight As in all of her classes.
- Student examples will vary.

D) "The point is simple—NASA is strapped for cash and the space station project is in jeopardy. This need not be the case. As I will suggest, there are three funding alternatives that will allow us to continue our quest in space."
