This strategy is the least preferable, involves presenting negative consequences to students, can direct the student to restore a situation to original/better condition, can be a physical punishment and should be used as a last resort' and ‘side effects could include associating school with punishment, causes student to dislike school, causes student to avoid attending school, and can increase behavior to get attention. Discussion should include an understanding that when teachers punish students they are modeling negative behavior themselves. Various examples are acceptable.
