Explain how technology can help employers cope with the loss of knowledge when employees leave.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Several examples offered in the textbook, including:

Customer relationship software - automates sales and provides salespeople with access to client histories, including prior orders and complaints. This enables salespeople to quickly become familiar with client accounts (about which they might otherwise know nothing).
Groupware applications - Can standardize interactions and keep records of decisions and crucial contextual information, providing something like an electronic record of employee knowledge (i.e., IBM Notes).
Livelink - Enables all employees to track and share documents on their firm's intranet.
New simulation software for team-based project management, such as Thinking Tools' Project Challenge, enables new teams to learn how to work together much more rapidly than on-the-job experience alone would permit.
