Use the data of Problem 3.35 and Figure P3.35 and source transformations to determine .

The circuit shown in Figure P3.35 is a simplified DC version of an AC three-phase wye-wye (Y-Y) electrical distribution system commonly used to supply industrial loads, particularly rotating machines.

VS1 = VS2 = VS3 = 170 V

Rw1 = Rw2 = Rw3 = 0.7?

R1 = 1.9? R2 = 2.3?

R3 = 11?

a. Determine the number of non-reference nodes.

b. Determine the number of unknown node voltages.

c. Compute v'1, v'2, v'3, and v’n.

Notice that once v’n is known the other unknown node voltages can be computed directly by voltage division.

Known quantities:

Find:

v’n using source transformations.

Analysis:

Combine resistors in series i.e Rw1 and R1.VS1 is a thevenin source with R1eq. The same goes for Vs2 and R2eq and Vs3 and R3eq. Convert all Thévenin sources to Norton sources and the two nodes of the new circuit are vn’ and ground. Combine parallel resistors and current sources to find Req and IS.
