What is the difference between trial courts and appellate courts?
What will be an ideal response?
The main distinction between trial (lower criminal and felony) courts and appeals courts is that appellate courts do not decide questions of guilt or innocence. They review the proceedings in the trial court to make sure the trial court followed the rules of procedure and did not violate the defendant's constitutional rights. Defendants do not have to (and most do not) appear when appellate courts hear their cases. Proceedings in the appellate court are the most formal of all three levels of courts.
