Explain the definition and role of a subpoena.
What will be an ideal response?
A subpoena is simply a court order that requires an individual to appear at a specific time and place to testify as a witness. A subpoena is issued by the court and must be personally served (delivered) to the person whose appearance is sought. After being served with a subpoena, an individual who fails to appear in court as ordered is likely to be held in contempt of court. An important component of this right is to have individuals in prison or jail brought to court by law enforcement officials to testify.
