Briefly discuss the criticisms of the Hawthorne Studies

Despite its limitations, the extent to which the Hawthorne Studies affected the
trajectory of management theory cannot be denied. Researchers suggested that the
Hawthorne Studies were not conducted with the appropriate scientific rigor necessary and
therefore the results should be dismissed. Among some of the objection researchers have
raised are: the Hawthorne Studies were not conducted with the appropriate scientific rigor
necessary, the Relay Assembly Test Room Study was too small (five women), there were
no control groups used, and real production did not increase until two of the women
workers were replaced with workers who were more "cooperative."
