What is the significance of addressing ecosystems rather than individual species when it comes to the issue of endangered species?

What will be an ideal response?

Saving a species from extinction only to return it to a failing ecosystem seems a self-defeating approach. It is a bit like saving a person from a burning house only to put him or her back into the burned-out house. Focusing on the ecosystem addresses the systemic problems that will determine whether a species will survive in the long term.
