What are probes and why are they important in cultural interviews?

What will be an ideal response?

Probes are follow-up questions after a respondent has answered a question. Usually stories, values, or other cultural data come out in response to probes, not in the initial response. For example, if you ask about a hero in an organization, the initial answer tells you little unless you ask about why the person is a hero or ask about an example that illustrates that person’s value to an organization.
