Describe the difference between a "population" and a "sample." What is a "representative sample"? What is the best way to achieve representativeness in a sample?

What will be an ideal response?

A population is the target group to be studied. In contrast, a sample consists of the individuals selected from the population to represent all members of the population to be studied. A representative sample is one in which every member of the population has an equally likely chance of being selected for the sample. This is best achieved through the process of random sampling.
