Data mining software looks for meaningful patterns and relationships among data. For example, data mining software could help a consumer products firm identify potential customers based on their prior purchases. The terms are related in the sense that both refer to data storage and extraction. The data warehouse, however, describes data organization and storage; while data mining focuses on methods of obtaining valuable business knowledge from a data warehouse.
