Scientists assume that there are constancies or laws that can be uncovered through the use of the scientific enterprise. Psychologists use the scientific enterprise to make systematic observations. Psychologists rely on the use of formal, systematic observations to address their questions about behavior; they use empirical methods just like scientists in all disciplines.
